1. The major classes of neutral lipids and the phospholipids were determined in
sarcolemma, fragmented sarcoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria of rat skeletal muscle. 2.
The lipid composition of the sarcolemma is clearly different from that of sarcoplasmic
reticulum and mitochondria. The sarcolemma contains a high content of phosphatidylserine
and sphingomyelin in the phospholipid as well as large amounts of cholesterol, cholesterol
